Body Contouring Q & A

by Linda G. Everett, MD, MHA

What is body contouring?

No matter how diligent you are with diet, exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight, you may still have resistant fat that just won’t go away. Advanced medical devices can solve that problem. These devices permanently remove persistent fat by destroying the fat cells without causing any harm to surrounding skin and tissues. As the damaged fat cells break down, you gain the body shape you worked so hard to obtain.

What procedures does Dr. Everett use for body contouring?

Dr. Everett offers two different procedures. They’re both noninvasive, so they work from outside the body without requiring a surgical incision. Both procedures are also safe, effective, and require no downtime.

CoolSculpting®: This technology uses controlled cooling to freeze fat cells, so they die, break down, and get carried away. The CoolSculpting applicator is secured to the target area, then the procedure takes about an hour. (For more information on CoolSculpting, click here)

SculpSure®: SculpSure uses light energy from a laser operated at a controlled wavelength that only affects fat cells. The energy uses heat to kill the fat cells, then they gradually break down and are naturally eliminated from your body.

Can you improve the appearance of cellulite?

Cellulite seldom disappears with diet and exercise, which can be frustrating for many patients. The dimpling that you see in your skin occurs as fat pushes through weakened connective tissue in the skin’s deep layers. Connective tissue can weaken or break from normal aging or when it’s stretched as you gain weight. Dr. Everett uses a radiofrequency medical device, the BodyFX™ to eliminate fat and stimulate new collagen. As you lose fat from the targeted area, collagen tightens skin, and your cellulite is diminished. Her goal is to help all patients feel confident with how they look and feel.
